Under Rev. Mitchell, a new sanctuary was built of block. The main sanctuary included our sanctuary, up to the choir area. Bathrooms, behind the church, were put in later. Up until this time, bathrooms were two outhouses: one for the women and one for the men. According to Rev. Sanford Haney, these outhouses were located about 50 yards behind where the social hall is today.
The old lumber church was sold to the Bonnie Collins family and moved just north of the church. This structure burned in the 1960s.
July 1951 preacher elected brother O.B. Harris. A wood heater was placed in the church during that same year. When he resigned in March 20, 1952 the church elected Rev. J.A. Tate. Some new pews were purchased and the church was painted. He resigned on November 20, 1952 and Rev. Mitchell was again elected and began his term December 1.
Again, according to church records, a few of the church folks met Wednesday, June 24, 1953 and called Rev. Joseph Lewis to pastor. October 4, 1953 Rev. Lewis resigned and sent Rev. Marty Mears to fill his place until the church called a pastor. He was elected to pastor in November. Old pews were sold and new ones purchased during that year.
1954 brought new bathroom facilities when the outhouses burned. Frank Hayes built them. The cost of the block and other material was $34.17, according to church records.
The church voted to build Sunday School rooms in January 1956 and in March voted to put down a pump. Two women held revivals in June. Sis. Betty Ann Mears received an offering of $29.48 for one week. Five blessed people were saved. Sis. Willie Mae Cook got $15.43. One person was saved during her five day revival.
May 20, 1956 Brother Mears resigned and Brother E.L. Raley was called as Pastor June 28, 1956
Rev. Roy Newsome was called as pastor June 19, 1957. In March 1958, three heaters were purchased by the WM‘s for $76 and paid for over a period of about 1 1/2 years. A missionary. Rev. S.L. Navlin from Singapore, came in September and spoke of how the people there worship idol gods. He received an offering of $14.40. An offering $4.40 was taken up in December to give the children fruit at the Christmas program.
May 1959 Rev. Newsome resigned and Brother Mitchell was again called as pastor in June. Baptizing of six people was done at the park in Vernon June 19, 1960. Marty Mears came to build a table for the church for “spreading lunch”. John Bodie and W.L. Perkins helped. The material cost was $43.81. It was then decided to place a cover over the table.
Rev. J.H. Stephens was called as pastor and began his tenure May 21, 1961. During 1961 and 1962 cake sales and fish suppers were held by the women of the church to help in payment to Springfield.
Rev. Marty Mears was again elected April 19, 1962 to serve as pastor and resigned February 24, 1963. Rev. Jasper Rogers became the new pastor March 3, 1963. Again the WM’s came to the assistance of the church by giving $32 toward painting the outside walls of the church. The CA’s gave $12. The church also voted in November to replace the church and Sunday School room heaters and larger ones and put in a gas tank.
Mack Raley gave the church its first air conditioner. In August 1964 the church was wired at a cost of $32.26 for the material and labor.
January 10, 1965 Rev. Wesley Weekly delivered the AM message on Matthew 28:19 - missions. At that time the church pledged to give $5 monthly toward missions.
Rev. Cecil Perkins delivered his first sermon as pastor June 5, 1966. His offering was $14.12. Nine new members were added during his tenure. He resigned May 21, 1967.
Rev. Robert Douglas was called to pastor June 4, 1967. By May 1968 active members had grown to 34.
Rev. Woodrow Dupree was called to Pastor on May 12, 1968. The electric bill in June was $5.11. A communion tray was purchased for $12.50. During his pastorship, many revivals were held by Revs. Marty Mears, Robert Burke, O.B. Harris, Victor Kolmetz, Chatman Carnley, and Burt Hardy between 1968 and 1974. By the end of 1974, offerings had total $7018.67. There was a building fund of $3,312.60 and there were now 34 active members.
During his pastorship in 1971 and 1972, there was a building fund established for a new Sunday School building. The dedication of the new building was on August 30, 1971. The church purchased a new attendance board, a new cradle roll poster, new pews and a new altar to match the pews, which were pine stained golden light oak. A new piano was bought for $595. A new front porch was placed on the church in January 1972. The first Vacation Bible school was held July 17 through the 21st with an average attendance of 45. The teachers were Jean Jenkins, Diane Hall, Claud Hicks, Rev. Dupree, Juanita Cook, Claudia Perkins, Maggie Rutledge, Ester Carnley, Lois Jenkins, Mary Louise Carnley, Annette Porter and the pianist was Angie Morris. A neon cross was placed in the front of the church September 4 at a cost of $15.
A new A/C and heating system were placed in the church on August 10, 1973. Additional pews were purchased to be placed on the area that had one been Sunday School rooms and is now part of the rostrum.
February 23, 1974 the hi-teens and teenagers held a hotdog benefit supper to raise money to paint their classrooms and purchase carpets for those rooms.
The first person buried in the church cemetery was Sister Lois Jenkins, one of the Sunday School teachers, in May. Also in May, the church voted to build a kitchen on the north side of the church.
Brother L.G. Foxworth of Bonifay became pastor December 16, 1974. In January. The board agreed to pay someone $10 per week to clean the church and grounds. Church members took turns cleaning.
Brother Marty was elected pastor June 19, 1975. It was agreed that the church would begin having fellowship suppers every third Saturday night. New carpeting and floor covering were placed in the sanctuary and fellowship hall respectively. In August the new fellowship hall was dedicated with Brother A.E. Hall, Marianna, as the main speaker. Then Rev. Mears resigned September 5, 1976.
Brother Joby Kirkland became the interim pastor New counters were built for the kitchen and donated by Ed Martin and his son, James.
Rev. Jerome Lewis, Bonifay, was elected as the pastor on May 16, 1977. In July the board agreed to purchase a house trailer to be placed on the church grounds as a pastorium with the Lewis family as the first occupants. The fifth Sunday of July was selected as old-fashioned day, an all day meeting, with members dressing as the people used to dress years ago - bonnets, long dresses, coveralls, and old time suits. In September there was a baptizing at Miller’s Ferry. In November it was decided to discontinue the third Saturday night fellowship dinners.
On November 20, Jimmy and Pat Perkins’ home was destroyed by fire. New Bethany held a benefit dinner and gave them a donation totaling $944.48 for materials for their home.
